Pennsylvania Veteran Benefits 2026: Property Tax Exemptions and Military Retired Pay Tax
The state benefits Pennsylvania gives veterans and their surviving spouses: property tax exemptions, how the state taxes military retired pay, and other benefits, each with who qualifies, the amount, how to apply and the official source.
Pennsylvania fully exempts a disabled veteran's home from real estate taxes if the VA rates the veteran 100% permanently disabled, individually unemployable (IU), or blind, paraplegic or a double amputee from wartime service, and the veteran shows financial need. Income at or below $114,637 is presumed to meet the need test (level effective Jan 1, 2025). The same rules apply to surviving spouses. Military retired pay is fully exempt from Pennsylvania personal income tax. Other state benefits include free hunting and fishing licenses, a waiver of registration fees, 10-point civil service preference, the Educational Gratuity for children of veterans, and six state veterans homes.
