Wyoming Veteran Benefits 2026: Property Tax Exemptions and Military Retired Pay Tax

The state benefits Wyoming gives veterans and their surviving spouses: property tax exemptions, how the state taxes military retired pay, and other benefits, each with who qualifies, the amount, how to apply and the official source.

Wyoming's main veteran tax benefit is the Veterans Property Tax Exemption (W.S. 39-13-105). It exempts $6,000 of assessed value each year, which you can apply to the property tax on your principal residence or to vehicle registration fees. It covers qualifying wartime or campaign-medal veterans, veterans with a compensable service-connected disability, unremarried surviving spouses and (since July 1, 2025) Gold Star parents, all with 3 years of Wyoming residency. You must apply every year by the fourth Monday in May. Wyoming has no personal income tax, so it does not tax military retired pay. The state also offers free hunting and fishing licenses to disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients, and a community-college tuition benefit for overseas combat veterans. (sources)
