In 2026, Social Security pays on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of each month depending on your birth date (1st–10th, 11th–20th, 21st–31st). If you started benefits before May 1997, or get both Social Security and SSI, you are paid on the 3rd; SSI is paid on the 1st. A date on a weekend or federal holiday moves to the business day before: for example, the November 11 Veterans Day payment is made on November 10, 2026.

How these dates are computed. From the rules themselves: 20 CFR §404.1807 (monthly payment day) assigns the payment day by birth date and moves a payment that falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday to the first preceding business day; 20 CFR §416.502 (SSI paid on the 1st) does the same for SSI on the 1st. Holidays are the observed dates on OPM, Federal holidays. SSA’s own printed calendar (SSA, Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2026 (Publication 05-10031)) states the same rules; ssa.gov blocks automated downloads, so we read an archived copy, and its payment days are marked by colour rather than printed as text. Every date above is therefore computed from the rules, not copied, and our tests recompute each one independently. 10 of the 2026 dates move earlier. When the 1st is early, SSI for the next month arrives in the previous month — two SSI payments in one month, none in the next.

When is SSI paid in 2026?
On the 1st of each month, or the business day before when the 1st is a weekend or holiday (20 CFR §416.502 (SSI paid on the 1st)). In 2026 the payments for January, February, March, August and November arrive at the end of the month before; the January payment, for example, is made on December 31, 2025.
Why was my payment early this month?
Because the scheduled day fell on a weekend or a federal holiday; the payment is made on the preceding business day (20 CFR §404.1807 (monthly payment day)). It is still the payment for that month, not an extra one.
What is the Social Security payment schedule for 2027?
The same rules, computed for 2027 in the second table above. The January 2027 SSI payment is made on December 31, 2026 because January 1 is a holiday.
