South Carolina Property Tax Relief for Seniors 2026

Every statewide property tax break South Carolina offers older homeowners that we could confirm on an official page: the type of relief, the age and income limits, the amount, how to apply and the deadline.

South Carolina's main senior benefit is the Homestead Exemption: homeowners 65 or older (or totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind) who have lived in SC for a year pay no property tax on the first $50,000 of their legal residence's fair market value, with no income limit. For tax year 2026 only, people who already qualified in 2025 get an extra $25,000 ($75,000 total). All owner-occupied homes are also exempt from school operating millage, and reassessment increases are capped at 15% per five years. There is no statewide senior assessment freeze, circuit-breaker credit, tax deferral, or rebate program. (sources)
