Minnesota Property Tax Relief for Seniors 2026

Every statewide property tax break Minnesota offers older homeowners that we could confirm on an official page: the type of relief, the age and income limits, the amount, how to apply and the deadline.

Minnesota has no age-based homestead exemption and no senior assessment freeze. Seniors get the same Homestead Market Value Exclusion as every homeowner (up to $38,000 off taxable value, phasing out at $517,200). The two main senior property tax benefits are the Homestead Credit Refund, an income-based circuit breaker (2025 household income under $142,490) that gives a larger subtraction to filers aged 65 or older, and the Senior Citizens' Property Tax Deferral. The deferral caps the tax a 65+ homeowner pays at 3% of household income (income limit $96,000) and the state lends the rest. (sources)
