Iowa Property Tax Relief for Seniors 2026
Every statewide property tax break Iowa offers older homeowners that we could confirm on an official page: the type of relief, the age and income limits, the amount, how to apply and the deadline.
Every Iowa homeowner now gets a 10% homestead exemption (minimum $5,500, maximum $20,000 of taxable value) from assessment year 2026 under SF 2472, and owners 65 or older get an extra $6,500 of taxable value exempt with no income test. Low-income homeowners 65-69 or totally disabled can claim the sliding-scale Property Tax Credit, and those 70+ with household income under 250% of the federal poverty level can have their tax effectively frozen at their first-claim-year amount. Iowa has no age-based senior deferral program; county boards can suspend or abate taxes for owners unable to pay. (sources)
