The 2026 Roth IRA and traditional IRA contribution limit is $7,500, or $8,600 if you are 50 or older (a $1,100 catch-up). The limit is shared across all your IRAs, traditional and Roth together. Direct Roth contributions phase out between $153,000 and $168,000 of modified AGI for single filers and $242,000 and $252,000 for married couples filing jointly.

You also need taxable compensation at least equal to what you contribute; a spouse without earnings can contribute on the strength of a joint return. For 2026 contributions you have until the due date of your 2026 return, not including extensions (IRS Publication 590-A), so the 2026 limit is still usable in early 2027.
